My East Coast Debut

It's official: I'm bi-coastal. Friends, family, and fans, a lot has happened in the last week. I thought about splitting this up into two posts, but my moms don't take long enough naps for me to have such luxuries. So you're getting all the news in one fell swoop. Stick with me here, the good stuff is at the end.

First up, my plane trip! Now, I was a little nervous about how this was going to go down. The moms seemed really stressed, and I had a feeling my dog wasn't too happy about being shoved into a little backpack, either. So there I was, ready to begin my life of jet-setting, but I had to deal with my stressed out moms and my anxious dog. PLUS, my moms packed SO MUCH STUFF! I tried to tell them that I really only needed a few key outfits, but they insisted on bringing everything that either fits me, might fit me, or may even remotely fit me by the time we return to San Francisco. That's a lot of clothes, my friends. My AP took us to the airport (thanks, AP!), where said excessive luggage was loaded onto a cart, only to promptly topple over the second the cart was pushed over the smallest of bumps. Oops. I was on my best behavior until just before we were going to board. Then I thought I'd give my moms a run for their money and let out a few good cries. Boy did that work! They started pulling out all the stops to get me to return to my formerly calm state---bottle, diaper change, pacifier, rattle! It was great! Good to know they'll scramble for me in a pinch. But once on the plane I resumed my angelic behavior and slept through the whole flight.

Once we landed in NY, we had to deal with finding a cab sufficiently big for all our luggage, me, the dog, my stroller, and my moms. Thankfully, there is the minivan! We arrived at our temporary home and were greeted by my God Mama of the East---Auntie Lia!! She saved the day by bringing me a co-sleeper that's on loan from Jack and Jen. Good thing, because I really didn't want to have to sleep in the bath tub or something. A little bit later, my aunties Denise and Serena (aka Nini and Munch) came over and started entertaining me (they haven't stopped yet!). I love all my aunties so much, and I have a feeling they love me.
Here I am making eyes at my Auntie Munch.

Since that first night, I've had many dinners with the aunties (including Auntie Dolly, and Auntie Lia's partner, Jen), wandered the streets of Park Slope, and generally had a rollicking good time. I also got to meet Tey and Alice, who are letting my mommies use their car (thanks Tey and Alice) so we can drive to fun places and I can be safely seated in my car seat. I also want to thank Tey and Alice for giving us some respite from the HEAT and HUMIDITY on a day when we were traipsing about town. Their house was so nice and cool!! I also got to meet Amanda and Melissa and their baby, Morgan. Morgan and I discussed a potential future relationship. I'm not sure if I can do the long distance thing, but I'm willing to give it a shot. She IS pretty hot.

On my fourth day here, we packed up the car and headed even further east to my Nana Linda's; it was her birthday! I got to meet Nana Linda and Grandpa Walter; they had just come from the beach and they smelled like the ocean (I think I'm going to like the ocean). They're both so tan! Nana Linda scooped me up and danced me around the room to some good Neil Young tunes (I do love me some Neil Young!). Grandpa Walter gave me the *coolest* framed proof of a Mets anniversary poster. I can't wait to put it up in my room! You should have seen Aunt Nini's face when she saw that I might become a Mets fan (she's partial to the Yankees).

All of this leads us up to my big date with God. That's right, my people, I've been baptized. I have been saved, blessed, and am generally protected against evil. Jealous? I have to say, the event was an overall smashing success. I looked quite dashing in my christening outfit, even if the hat did make me look a little....well....you know...gay. I can roll with that.

So on Sunday morning we headed off to the Episcopal Church where I, Caleb Milo, son of lesbian parents, was baptized by a Haitian priest (Father Mois(t)) in a predominantly black church while my Jewish god mother looked on. What a world!! Anyway, I was a true champ in the house of God---didn't cry even when the priest man dumped water on my head three times. I kept my cool and just let the good people of the parish admire me.

After the service was over, we headed back to the house for the after party. HOLY FAMILY!! I had no idea I had so many cousins, aunties, uncles! I wish I knew how to insert a family tree here, because you'd all be pretty amazed. I'll let the pictures do the talking here, but suffice it to say I'm one lucky kid to be surrounded by such lovely people. I got to meet Titis Allison and Aimee, my Uncles Nick and Brenden, and my Grandpa Ang, among others. I hope I get to hang out with them a lot in the future!!

I'm also going to have to start plotting with my cousin, Zachary (he's a little guy, just like me) about how we can get our generation going on some important issues I've been contemplating (better diapers, less baby hair loss, etc.). I can't wait to hang out with them all again (which may not be until my wedding, although I am going to see the Gonzalez half of the family at a family picnic next weekend).

This is me with my Grandpa Angelo, Mommy, my Uncle Brenden, and my cousin, Zachary. He and I are going to change the world some day.
This is me with my new friend, Jessica. She bet Mommy that I was going to be a girl, way back when she met me in utero. Guess I proved her wrong!
Here I am with my Titi Allison. She's really great, and definitely helped make my after party a super success with her supposedly incredible sangria, and by hooking us up with killer eats!
This is my Aunt Nini with my buddy, Zachary.

These are "the boys", including my Uncle Nick on the bottom there. Maybe I can be like them some day....

This week is filled with more visits with friends, trips to see Nana Linda and Grandpa Walter, and valiant efforts to avoid the god-awful heat and humidity.

Until then, my friends...
