WOW! What a week! I really had to step it up this week as there were some VIPs on the social agenda. I mean, everyone I meet is a VIP in one way or another, but this week my moms told me I really had to bring my A-game. And so I did (as if this was ever in question).
First up was a visit from my very own west coast God Mama (I have an east coast one, too). God Mama Karen flew down from Seattle to meet me, even though we all know that she'll be much more excited about hanging out together when I can ride a bike. God Mama Karen surprised us all with a fancy new hair color. Who knew she could pull off the platinum blonde?! Karen really loves her sleep, but it was still a wonder she managed to sleep in past 6am when I was up and ready to PLAY! But after awhile she got it together for me, although I think she was really motivated by her desire to watch the Tour de France.
On the heels of her departure, we were off to mourn the departure of one of Mama's co-workers (and former mentees), Dustin. He has made a previous appearance on the blog. This time around I got to hang with the cool kids at La Mar (holy ceviche!!). As seems to be the case at these things, I got passed around from one set of open arms to the next!
The next day I got a visit from an expecting couple--Anne and Jamie! Mama and Anne went to law school together, and since Anne has to copy EVERYTHING Mama does, she went and got herself pregnant right after Mama! WTF?! But that's cool, because Anne and Jamie are also having a boy, and I'm ready to have someone to boss around (since up until now I've just been bossed around by my main man, Eli).
One day after that was my FIRST ROAD TRIP! Wahooo!! I see many more road trips in my future, even though my moms got mighty annoyed at my little car mirror playing the same two songs OVER and OVER again. I was entirely entertained by it all. Anyway, we road tripped (yes, my moms say I can use this as a verb) to San Luis Obispo to hang out with my one and only GREAT GRANDMA LAVERNE!! She pretty much rocks. She's 94 years old and still cracks jokes, flirts with waiters, makes her own jam, and generally puts the rest of us to shame (especially me, since I basically just poop, eat, and sleep). Great Grandma tells me I'm big like a future football player. I agree, though I'm thinking more running back than line backer (I'm not entirely sure of the difference between the two, except I think of the running back as a lean running machine and the line backer as a big beef cake). Great Grandma made me an apricot pie. Ummmmm...yum! (and yes, I didn't eat the pie DIRECTLY, but I did get some at the end of the day, if you know what I mean).
That night we stayed at the Madonna Inn, which is owned by Mama's cousins. Yup, that's right. The Madonna Inn, in all it's pink splendor, is in the family.
After filling up on homemade jam, biscuits, and eggs at Great Grandma's the next morning, we got back on the road for our next rendez vous with the ladies---B-Lub (aka Beth) and Marilyn.
B-Lub and Marilyn arrived just after we got home from our road trip. These ladies CRACK ME UP, even if I have no idea what they're saying. I could tell just by how much they laughed (at themselves, at each other, at pretty much everything) that they know how to live it up! I did cry a bit when B-Lub held me, but that's just because I was playing hard to get. I like this pic of them; I think they look like they like each other just like my mommies like each other. hmmmmm....
And to cap it all off, we had a Tuesday night field day at the Bobster's house! The Bobster is Mama's boss (at least that's the official word on the street). From what I can understand, he seems to just tell Mama what to do, and she does it, or tries to do it, or pretends to do it. I think I'm going to be a fan of the Bobster, and of his amazing wife, Deb. Lots of other good peeps at the shin-dig, but I only got photo ops with a couple of them, including one oddly calm, cool, and collected guy named Frank. I hope to reach his Zen state some day, although last night he really just bored me a bit.
This next week is the calm before the storm. That's right, folks----in just over a week we all head to NEW YORK CITY!! I am afraid.
